SCULPTURE: "SLIM, the Planter Bot"

After helping my friends last week to make robots on their farm, I got inspired to make "Slim". He's a Planter-Bot made from PVC pipe, some cheap plastic stuff from TARGET, wood screws and super glue. I don't know how to weld, so I used tools that I have in my basement. I finished it off with some enamel spray paint for the rusty metal look. I secured him to the ground with rebar and long bolts.

SCULPTURE: "DexterBot"

I just finished a special little Robot Project for my friend Emily. It was made in tribute to her dog Dexter, who passed in May of 2023. Emily was not expecting the sculpture, and we both shed a few "happy tears" on a video chat after she opened the box.

SCULPTURE: "BFF" (Robot and Cat)

Today, I managed to squeeze in ONE MORE sculpture before the end of 2023. This one is called "BFF" (Best Friends Forever). The robot is a hard-working Farming Android, and the cat is just doing it's cat-thing.

You will notice that the face of the Bot had some changes along the way. I failed to coat the styrofoam top of its head with Elmer's Glue to protect it. When I sprayed a mat gray coat on, the styrofoam melted. While it's a cool look, the "battle damage" did not go with the narrative.

SCULPTURE: "Running Bot"

What's a guy to do when it's been cold and raining for the last couple of days? How's about make another robot sculpture! This "Running Bot" is loosely based on a sketch I noodled many years ago. The components are made from my collection of odd bits and junk.

SCULPTURE: "The Sentry"

I love robots...all shapes and sizes. It's been a while since I've made one of my "junk bots", constructed from all kinds of bits that I collect. This one is called "The Sentry"...a diligent little guy who has been long forgotten from days of future-past. I suppose that the bluebird is the sentry now.

SCULPTURE: "Robot Puppet"

Keeping myself busy at home is not really a challenge for me. I have more projects in my little brain than I know what to do with. Today, I was delighted that my grandson Jackson was very happy with one of those projects I finished this weekend. I surprised him with a "Robot Marionette" I made for him. He often asks to play with one that I have in my art studio that I made many years ago. The hand-held operating mechanism is based on a Czechoslovakian puppet design.
I referred to an older puppet that I had made back around 2004. Here is THAT marionette. The hand controller is made a bit differently, so that the puppet's mouth can be opened and closed. The TOP heavy-gauged wire acts as a spring mechanism. Push it down, and gravity allows the mouth to open. The mouth string is attached to a little plastic bead under the jaw.

SCULPTURE- "Steampunk Gunslinger Bot"

Today I finished a fun little project...a "Steampunk Gunslinger Bot". I love westerns and have been watching several Clint Eastwood movies lately. I did a "custom conversion" of an old "Transformer" toy that was too challenging for my little brain to turn back into a bulldozer. I completely disassembled the toy, and also used a couple of bits from a Transformer airplane toy. I created the hat from scratch.

Monsters, Robots and Aliens

I had fun over the last few days drawing some aliens, robots and monsters for my friend Jaye Wiley. He's working on a project and needed some quick illustrations...whatever I wanted to come up with that would fit the "space" theme. It was a good exercise...it's been too long since I've done this kind of stuff!

SKETCHBOOK: "Ditch Diggin'!"

I took the day off from work and enjoyed a lunch chat with some friends who were visiting from out of town.  On the way home, my eye caught this "Ditch Witch" and I had to draw it.  I struck up a friendly conversation with the road crew, and started sketching.  About mid-way through the drawing, they politely asked if they could borrow the machines to work, with a promise to put them right back when they were done!  Ha!!  They were true to their word and I was able to finish!   Thanks, fellas!! (See the action below!)

Here's a little sketch I did back in March 2012..."Scooters on the Plaza".

It's been a while since I've posted a robot sketch...so, here ya go!  These were started while waiting for my daughter at the airport, but finished after a couple of other "waiting for something" situations.

SKETCHBOOK - A Few Random OddBots

It's been a while since I've loaded some ROBOT sketches...so now I have.
