CHALK ART - "Postcard #61"

I've reached a milestone with today's posting. Decided that it was time to take a break for a while...like the good slacker that I am.

 

Sketchbook: "Fall Dirt-Diggers"

I've been on a long break from sketching, so I'm pushing myself into drawing more. I love drawing construction equipment and machines. The first in line was a sketch at my church, the second sketch is the view from my driveway of the Water Company digging a hole. The last sketch is from the opposite side of the street from the digger.

Chalk Art: "Postcard #60"

Finished a new "postcard" for the season. I borrowed something I wrote for an animated "e-card" for Hallmark Cards way back in the day.

 

 

Chalk Art: "Postcards 57, 58, 59"

Every so often, I hit on a "theme" for several chalk drawings in my POSTCARDS series. This time the theme is "Ridiculous Nature Facts". These are quirky (and obvious) things that are TRUE, but with a bit of silliness mixed in.

You'll notice in the photo below, I created a template to make sure the wings were equal in length.

 

Leftover Sketches

Sometimes, when I have to wait for things like an oil change for my car, or while at an airport or flying, or waiting at a doctor's office ...I sketch. Today, I was looking at some of my older sketchbooks and ran across some "waiting" sketches that I had not scanned or posted yet. These sketches usually are "off the top of my head" and are just plain goofy. No surprise there.

Now that it's officially FALL, I drew up a couple of postcards for the season. 

And here's one I forgot to post, that I did after these two postcards...#56.

 

Sculpture: "Cajun Gator and Jumpin' Catfish"

It's been a long time since I've made an "automata" crank-toy. Just finished this today.  Introducing "Cajun Gator and Jumpin' Catfish"! I couldn't get the video to play on the blog...so use your imagination. The front of the boat goes up and down...the back propeller turns...and the catfish "jumps" up and down and spins as you crank the handle.

 

CHALK ART: "Postcard #53"

Just finished with my latest postcard for the neighborhood. Those who know me well will not be surprised at the subject matter. I LOVE the "Big G"!!! Of course I was listening to multiple soundtracks from recent Godzilla movies while I worked. This postcard is a hybrid of chalk and paint.

SCULPTURE: "Cycloptopus"

I just finished my latest little project. This diorama was inspired by cover art for science fiction books from the 1950s. At the time, the alien creatures probably seemed a bit scary to readers. But I love the humor that is baked into that retro-future. This beast of mine is a "Cycloptopus" (I didn't come up with that term...google it and you'll find lots of variations on that theme). And the little guy with the jet pack...he needs to look where he's walking.
 

CHALK ART: "Postcard #51"

Hard to believe it's been over a month since my last "postcard". The STAR WARS theme was inspired by a joke read out loud by my grandson off of the kids menu at a restaurant in Oregon.

 

SCULPTURE: "Kaiju Bull Elk"

I just finished the latest addition to my series of "Kaiju Monster Heads". This one is a GIANT BULL ELK. His special powers are Lightning Antlers that deliver an Electro-Magnetic-Pulse, as well as an Ultra-Sonic-Boom caused by his ear-piercing vocalizations. I was inspired by the movie "Kong: Skull Island", and the gigantic mutant water buffalo featured there.

CHALK ART: "Postcard #50"

I just finished a new postcard about missing the obvious. Like one time, when I was sketching a hippo at the KC zoo, and a teen-girl came up and asked me, "Are you drawing that?" as i was literally drawing it.

SCULPTURE: "The Traveler"

Just finished "The Traveler"...my latest sculpture. It can now be revealed what happened to the "Unlucky Ducky"...the cause was worthy.

The "How To Draw It" series continues.

 And I added some "Hot LAVA!" to my sidewalk.

CHALK ART: "Postcard #48"

 

Seems like only a couple days ago, I posted a new chalk "postcard". But the rains came along and washed away all the drawings my neighbor kids did in my driveway. So I thought it would be fun to continue my series on "How To Draw It". I made a template of my shark, to trace around for continuity.

It'll be a day or so for the rains to move on through. Then I'll post what the young artists do!!
